Compared to last Monday’s sale: Offerings of feeder cattle were too lightly tested to trend this sale, however lower to sharply lower undertones were noticed on both steer and heifer calves. Feeder calf quality was mostly average. CME positions continue to trend lower, with triple digit losses seen again today. Calves were mostly offered in small packages and buyers showed mostly light demand for all calves on offer. Market activity was mostly slow today. Weigh up cows sold on mostly moderate to good demand on heavy offerings.
Packer buyers showed moderate to good demand for cows to send to immediate harvest as a light sale schedule this week has packers pushing to acquire offerings. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to firm. Demand for feeding cows continues to be strong as packer buyers and order buyers push to procure offerings. Feeding cows sold steady to firm. Weigh up conditions were average to below average today, as many cows were pushing fill. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady undertones were noticed. Over 2,000 head of bred cows and heifers were on offer this sale. Bred offerings sold on mostly moderate demand for heavy offerings. Bred cattle quality was average to attractive. The front end of bred cattle on offer sold with good demand, however with plenty of cows in the offering demand diminished as the sale progressed. The majority of offerings in this sale were pasture bred to bulls, many from reputation herds and sons of very popular AI bulls. Most heifer offerings were represented as bred to low birth weight bulls. Feeder cattle offerings were 27 percent steers; 73 percent heifers, with 16 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Receipts 10 percent feeder cattle, 7 percent slaughter cows, less than 1 percent slaughter bulls, 30 percent feeding cows and cows returning to the country; balance bred cows, heifers and pairs. ***Next sale will be Monday Nov 27th, 2017.***
