“This is the first time I’ve ever tested a computer program. Today’s Rancher® from Ag Management Systems, Inc, is a ranch/livestock management system that tracks your critters and your pastureland. It covers the important data collection points like pedigrees, income-expense for each animal, sale selection, medical treatments, feeding records, pasture/pen movements, premise ID, country of origin, AI, embryo transfer, weaning weights, exposure to the bull and pregnancy verification. And, it’s designed to be compatible with any future NAIS programs, should that ever actually happen.
“How easy is something like this to use? Well, some us technically challenged cowboys, or maybe a better way to describe it would ‘patience-limited’ folks, don’t have a lot of time to mess with a computer program that’s written in Greek or won’t respond to simple commands. Seems like the Today’s Rancher® programmers got the idea, because I just popped the disc, in punched in the 20-number code they gave me, and the dang thing ended up on my desktop slick as you please in under five minutes. It was about as complicated as making a grilled cheese sandwich.
“Navigating around on the program was a breeze. it is fast, easy to figure out, and basically cowboyproo… naw, I won’t go that far. Not much out there is cowboyproof, and that’s our fault, but this little program is a dandy. Hank Wilson, the fellow that’s behind it all, doesn’t believe in high-priced over-fancy programming. My philosophy exactly. If I could buy a computer without three quarters of the junk programs installed I’d be a happy man. Hank knows the deal. Working Ranch Magazine – February 2010 – Tim’s Test
We have a ranch of around 5300 acres, we run around 200 head of heifer yearlings and a handful of pairs (mostly for our son to do 4H with). We AI most of our heifers and do naturals on the rest so keeping records is very vital for us. We are in a conservation program which requires rotational grazing so moving cattle around has to be simple and not complicated. I have been keeping all of our records on Excel and it gets a little time consuming when I have to run back and forth between pages. We ran across your record keeping system in a Ranch magazine and decided to try it out. So far I have been really impressed with it because it is a very simple program that is user friendly. You don’t get lost and if you make a mistake you can always fix it without having to delete records. I see that you have updated the cattle part of the program which will be nice. I will let you know how I get along with the program after we get ready this fall for the records to be printed and turned in.
I really like the program and am learning slowly. Very user friendly!! The other thing that I have to say Thank you for is being so readily available to help with this program!

We have two boys raising show goats and we raise bucking bulls. The boys can do their own work and we can track everything we need to.
