In the Southern Plains trade and demand was light on Wednesday. Compared to last week in the Texas Panhandle, live sales sold 1.00 lower at 118.00. In Kansas compared to last week, live sales sold 2.00 lower at 117.00 with a few dressed sales at 185.00. Trade was mostly inactive on light demand in all other feeding regions on light buyer inquiry. Wednesday afternoon boxed beef cutout values were weak to lower on light to moderate demand and moderate offerings. Choice was down .31 at 196.90 with Select down 1.90 to close at 194.91 on 183 loads. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer for today was estimated at 10.98 per cwt live, up 0.08 when compared to Tuesday’s value. The estimated cattle slaughter for Wednesday was reported at 112,000. December CME live cattle contracts were down .32 to settle at 119.97.
