On Friday negotiated cash trade and demand was light in the Northern Plains and Iowa. A few dressed sales sold at 210.00 in Nebraska and Iowa with a very limited amount of live sales in Colorado from 136.25-137.50. Friday afternoon boxed beef cutout were sharply lower on light demand and moderate offerings.
Choice was down 4.20 at 226.30 with Select down 2.44 to close at 219.26 on 157 loads. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer for today was estimated at 12.40 per cwt live, up 0.13 when compared to Thursday’s value. The Cattle on Feed Report showed cattle on feed September 1st at 103 percent with placements during August at 95 percent and marketings during August at 94 percent. The estimated cattle slaughter for Friday was reported at 111,000 with
16,000 on Saturday for a week to date estimate of 576,000. October CME live cattle contracts were down .85 to settle at 136.00.
