LOMETA – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Lampasas and Mills County will conduct a range tour on the Herring Ranch near Lometa from 9 a.m. until noon Oct. 14.
The ranch is five miles northwest of Lometa on U.S. Highway 183.

“This tour will offer a good mix of livestock and wildlife information,” said Heath Lusty, AgriLife Extension agent in Lampasas County. “Because wildlife is an ever increasingly important ranch component throughout our area, we’ve asked Dr. John Tomecek to be our guest speaker. He’s the AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist at San Angelo and is well-versed in wildlife issues that may affect landowners, both negative and positive. He’s also an excellent communicator with a unique insight into a number of wildlife-related topic areas.”

The tour topics will include balancing wildlife and cattle, matching cow type to the range, seasonal cow herd management, and rotational grazing systems and benefits.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, one integrated pest management and two general, will be offered.
